Martyrdom Secret to Immortality: IRGC Chief
Addressing the closing ceremony of an event held to select top research works about the Islamic resistance and Sacred Defense (the 1980s Iraqi-imposed war on Iran), Major General Hossein Salami cited Verse 111 of Surah At-Tawbah, “God has purchased the souls and property of the believers in exchange for Paradise. They fight for the cause of God to destroy His enemies and to sacrifice themselves,” and said the logic of Karbala and Ashura is loving immortality whose secret is martyrdom.
He said martyrdom is an everlasting reality created by martyrs in the world, adding that it is a non-ending line of dignity, steadfastness and honor.
Those who write the history of the Sacred Defense are promoting this culture of immortality and defining for a nation the bond between this life and the everlasting life.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the IRGC commander pointed to the recent developments in Syria and said they demonstrated what will happen to a nation if the men of resistance and steadfastness are not there.
Today, foreign powers that are fanning the flames in Syria are after its land like hungry wolves preying on an isolated deer, he stated.
Major General Salami added that, as Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei put it, Syria will be liberated by its brave youths and the Zionists will pay a heavy price (for their acts of aggression against Syria) and will be buried in that land.

He went on to say that the Islamic world today is the field of Jihad and Muslims’ salvation passes through the field of Jihad.
